Old man winter is on the move with cold and snow predicted each day throughout the week. Daytime temps will hover in the teens and low 20′s and snow accumulation could be several inches a day. None of this is to say you can’t catch a few fish. But be prepared. Keep in mind what your mom said all those years ago, be sure to dress for the weather and tuck an extra pair of mittens in your pack.

Montana Fishing Report: Kootenai River
Monday, January 16th, 2012Montana Fishing Report: Kootenai River
Wednesday, January 11th, 2012Winds are calm, temps are chilly but the sun is shining again and discharge from Libby Dam is 4000cfs. Flows are presently being mananged on the low end of the scale so for the next few days there is definitely some fishing to be had here on the mighty Kootenai. Daytime temps should arrive somewhere in the middle twenties. Skies are clear and the winds are calm. Get out the streamer rods and sink tips and fire away. This is the time of year where big fish can be had. Try big bunny patterns in black and white and pulse the tip of the rod in a classic erratic, herky-jerky manner. Vary the speed of retrieval but generally keep it slow. Get it down, keep it down and hang on if you get a hit.
