Montana Fishing Report: Kootenai River

Flows from Libby Dam will be steady and approximately 13,000cfs through Sunday making for excellent conditions for some mid-February fishing.  Winds are calm, sun is out, and it’s a good day to be on the water.  Rising fish are being seen from time to time up near the dam but better opportunities can be had by sticking with nymphs or streamers.  This time of year trout will hold in slower currents, backeddies, tailouts, and cover like boulder gardens.  It’s importat to get the flies down and in their face since fish are less likely to feed aggressively this time of year as well.  Daytime temps should be around middle thirties and will feel warmer with sunshine.
