Here at Linehan Outfitting we are passionate about our trophy whitetail deer and for good reason!
Here at Linehan Outfitting we are extremely proud of our trophy Montana whitetail deer hunting. We feel this way for good reason! This northwest corner of Montana is home to a strong, extraordinarily healthy population of big-woods whitetail deer. The bucks here are brutes… heavy, and plentiful. Unlike we have witnessed in areas of Montana east of the Continental Divide, our whitetails have seen no large population crashes due to disease or winterkill. In fact, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks biologists have told us that the deer herd continues to grow here in the northwest part of the state. Whitetail deer hunting in this part of the state is all about doing it the old-fashioned way: no fences, no feeders, no high-tech box blinds. In the spirit of the old-school big-woods deer hunter, we employ all methods including spot and stalk, still-hunting, tracking, stand hunting, calling, and rattling.
We believe a trophy is in the eyes of the beholder. In the end, we just want you to be proud of your hunt and proud of the animal you have taken. Whenever possible we like to concentrate on mature bucks that are at least 4-years old. We shoot a lot of bucks in the 130-150 B&C class, and each year bucks in the 170+ class are taken in this area.
We take our whitetail hunting seriously and our guides are scouting twelve months a year. It’s important for us to keep track of what bucks survive the hunting season, what bucks survive the winter, where those bucks are feeding in the summer, and what animals are showing promise for the future. All our whitetail guides are locals; they have pounded this country for many years, and are well-versed in the strategies that will help you find some success.
Linehan Outfitting deer hunting trips are based out of our operation here in the wild and remote Yaak Valley of northwest Montana. Our Yaak log cabins are first-class in every way, and a comfortable home base during your stay in the big woods. Each cabin is appointed with its own kitchen, wireless internet, cozy flannel sheets on the beds, and gas grills on the porch. Each day your guide will pick you up at first light and drop you off after dark. Our cabins are warm, comfortable, and have everything you need including all utensils, pots and pans, etc.
Our big game concession permitted by the Kootenai National Forest includes over 300 square miles of land. This area of the state is especially remote, and the hunting pressure is minimal. It is no exaggeration to say that we rarely see another hunter in the woods. That fact alone should give you a good idea of how big this country is, and how little pressure the game experiences on a daily basis.
If you’re looking to hunt a trophy whitetail in big timber, if you are drawn to traditional methods of still-hunting, and if you are looking to experience some of the most spectacular and remote country in the lower 48, this hunt is for you!
